From the United Kingdom to Italy, from Canterbury to Rome, a modern pilgrimage which will pass through the most prestigious abbeys in Europe and which will end in 2025, on the occasion of the Jubilee in the capital. This morning, "On the way" was presented, the initiative conceived by the president of the No'hma Theater in Milan, Livia Pomodoro and promoted by the "Giubileo 2025 - No'hma on the way" Association which, in three years, from July 2023 until 2025, the year of the Jubilee, it will stop in these evocative places rich in history, art and spirituality, beacons of civilization that have illuminated, from the Middle Ages to today, the darkest years of our continent. The modern pilgrimage will leave on 28 July from Canterbury, the starting point of the Via Francigena, marked shortly before the year 2025 by Bishop Sigerico, to arrive in Rome in 14, on the occasion of the Holy Year. During the three-year period, XNUMX abbeys in Europe will be visited, across seven countries (Great Britain, France, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Switzerland and Italy).

Three days will be organized for each of them in which theatrical and musical performances, recitals and readings with leading artists will be organised, mostly within UNESCO heritage architectures, inspired by the proposal of words and themes, on which lay and religious they will debate the idea of travel and the practice of pilgrimage of yesterday and today. A yesterday and a today also made of local products, of an ancient and today modern and sustainable agriculture to visit. And on which to debate in round tables and meetings with speakers, experts and scholars of clear fame, protagonists of good practices in the biological world.

"On the way" will retrace the three main travel experiences in each of the three years: leaving (2023), passing through (2024), arriving (2025). And in every single stage a word will be declined (from pilgrimage to mercy, from silence to beauty) which will act as an active leitmotif for shows, concerts and meetings set up in the various abbeys. A collaboration process is being studied with the Treccani institute to enhance and sanction this linguistic and philological research. A very important initiative that will accompany the entire three-year course concerns the establishment of an orchestra that will be formed step by step involving musicians and students from the conservatories of the territories of the abbeys themselves. The "In the way" orchestra will have as its initial nucleus the Archimia string quartet, which has always been a point of reference for the No'hma theater space, until it arrives in Rome in 2025 with an orchestral team that will perform an original composition written for the occasion by maestro Fabio Vacchi, one of the most appreciated and internationally awarded composers. "On the way" is among the events selected by the Vatican for the Jubilee 2025, whose motto is Pilgrims of Hope.

"It is not just a journey through Europe along the paths crossed over the centuries by pilgrims of yesterday and today, but rather a journey of the heart and mind that brings together reason and faith, rediscovery and respect for the environment under the banner of the hope of a better future for our continent and our planet”, underlined Livia Pomodoro, president of the Teatro No'hma in Milan and creator of the initiative. "In every abbey - he added - we will bring a small but immense symbolic sign of peace, culture, dialogue, solidarity and brotherhood, because we are convinced that from these places, as happened in the not so distant past, the true rebirth of humanity”, he concluded. She accompanies the path of "In the journey", the Europa vie Francigene association (Aevf), sponsored by the Council of Europe, and the network of organic cities engaged in the dissemination of good organic practices that are friendly to the circular economy.

“We are certain that the On the Way initiative will be a valid tool for reflection for all the realities that its rich itinerary envisages crossing, the richness of which will become a tool for enhancing the many sensitivities it will encounter”, explained Monsignor Rino Fisichella. "We are also pleased that the theme of this Jubilee, succinctly and effectively represented by the motto Pilgrims of Hope, has been fully accepted in the realization of this project", he concluded.
